Denise carefully paints a vibrant hummingbird onto a porcelain jug she just made. “I feel deeply connected to my work. The hummingbird is Jamaica’s national bird—where my parents emigrated from in the 1950s.”
Her small studio is filled with handcrafted porcelain homeware, jewellery, and clay and glass sculptures. Every piece is shaped by hand or moulded with care. For Denise, ceramics is a forgiving, organic medium—one that captures emotion, mood, and memory.
Her cultural heritage is woven into every creation. “This doesn’t feel like a job. Making a living while honouring my roots is a dream come true.”
